It was exciting tuning in to Microsoft Ignite and listening to cutting-edge developments from Fabric, AI to Atom Computing. It goes without saying but Copilot stole the show. AI now empowers us and can help us reduce our digital debt. It’s not surprising that over 70% of Fortune 500s are utilising Copilot and, as was said at Ignite, this is only the beginning. We are well and truly in the AI era and there were several exciting AI announcements such as Copilot Actions with intuitive templates to do actions for you. It's going to change how we work and it's not going to go away.
However, with this growth and AI transformation - we were interested in the security and compliance innovations that naturally need to come alongside this empower this AI growth and there were plenty. We’ve highlighted our top compliance picks for Copilot.
Microsoft Purview Data Security Posture Management for AI
The AI Hub, which was in preview, is now the Microsoft Purview Data Security Posture Management for AI. This tool provides a central management location to help you quickly secure data for AI apps and proactively monitor AI use. Using policies, we can identify common security issues such as data oversharing in AI and remediate these using policies. This tool is a fantastic addition to the Purview stack allowing us to easily gain insights into AI usage and create protective policies from the one tool.
Communications Compliance
There have been some great announcements for improvements to Communications Compliance - this is not surprising with many organisations now adopting Copilot - most can feel lost in how to do this securely and with the same protections you might have over other applications interacting with business data.
We’ve written before about the importance of data preparation and governance but, we can’t rely on this alone; we also need to utilise security tools for all-round protection. One of the biggest compliance announcements was new support for detecting generative AI interactions with Copilot, non-Microsoft connected generative AI applications, and AI applications from browser and network activity by users in your organisation.
AI Risk Management
There will also be additional policies and recommendations to detect risky AI usage in Insider Risk Management and across Purview extended support for other generative AI applications, including Copilot Studio, ChatGPT - Microsoft Purview integration with ChatGPT Enterprise Compliance API, and new support for Microsoft Teams AI-generated notes, which is currently in Preview. Let’s not forget that Security for Copilot can also help do things like identify data that should be secured to help us keep on top of compliance issues faster.
At Perspicuity, we can help you with your rollout of Copilot, not only with Art-of-the-Possible training to ensure you get the most out of your Copilot licence but also implementing protections to empower your business users securely.
